One-day seminar March 12, 2002, The foundation of the WCJS.

   On March 12, 2002 the "World Congress of Jewish Scientists" (WCJS) Association carried out its first seminar in the "Maale Hahamisha" complex (near Jerusalem). The subject of this one-day seminar was the foundation of the "World Congress of Jewish Scientists". More than 50 participants took part in the seminar, including 14 doctors and 11 professors from 5 Israeli universities and other academic institutions, industrial and commercial organizations, and government institutions. In addition, the following departments and organizations were represented: Prime Minister Office (Dr. J. Stern), Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mr. A. Koll), Ministry of Science, Culture and Sport (Mr. E. Rosenfeld, Mrs. L. Lagush), Jewish Agency (Dr. I. Dunets, Mr. J. Shofet, Mrs. G. Kedmi), Zionist Council of Israel (Mr. M. Ben-Atar, Mr. J. Yahav, Mrs. G. Kamaysky), Ministry of Infrastructures (Mr. J. Milstein), Ministry of Immigration (Dr. Shapiro), Moscow University of Economics and Statistics (Pr. S. Polak, Dr. E. Feldman), and others.

   During the seminar Mr. Matri, who was one of the WCJS project coordinators, presented the audience WCJS's objectives and tasks, and summarized Association propositions for the directions of future activity.

   The following lectures took place during the seminar: Pr. G Bach (Hadassah Hospital), on the subject: "Genetic diseases typical for Jewish population, as possible direction for cooperation between Jewish scientists", and Pr. E. Plotkin (Ministry of Infrastructures), on the subject: "Cooperation between scientists from Israel and Diaspora on technological and scientific issues related to Israel".

   A wide discussion of principal issues was held and directed by Mr. Matri during the seminar, and included representatives of most organizations and academic institutions that took part in the seminar (Dr. J. Stern, Pr. E. Altschuler, Pr. D. Amir, Mr. J. Yahav, Mr. V. Knizjnik, Mr. E. Rosenfeld, Pr. J Krasik, Dr. A. Veksler, Dr. I. Dunets, Mr. J. Shofet, Mr. M. Ben-Atar, Mrs. G. Kamaysky, Pr. E. Plotkin, Pr. I. Kochubievsky, Dr. A. Groisman, Dr. A. Berman, Mr. V. Boponel, and others)

   As a result of the discussion of lectures and principal issues, the seminar supported the idea of foundation of a permanently active organization the "World Congress of Jewish Scientists", and recommended arrangement of similar seminars in Israel and the Diaspora as a preparation to the Constituent Assembly of WCJS in Israel in the future.
