Statement of Principles

Jewish scientists have made major contributions to world culture and progress far exceeding their small numbers. In order to focus attention on these contributions and ensure their continuation the World Congress of Jewish Scientists has been organized. This initiative is supported by an international panel of scientists including several Nobel laureates and eminent members of Academies of Science (see our list ).

World Congress of Jewish Scientists is dedicated to the following goals:
  1. Encouraging effective science education among Jewish youth in order to interest them in pursuing careers in scientific subjects. In order to do this, camps and seminars will be conducted worldwide both at the national and international levels with the participation of well known Jewish scientists.
  2. Establishing a museum of the accomplishments of Jewish scientists, providing details both about their scientific contributions and biographical information. The achievements of Jewish scientists as a group are often overlooked because they are usually listed according to their nationality. The museum will also have an Internet site where all the information can be readily accessed.
  3. Fostering interactions among Jewish scientists worldwide and organizing conferences and seminars on scientific topics of specific interest to Jews. Examples of such topics are:

3.1 Genetic diseases found mainly among Jews, such as Tay-Sachs disease.

3.2 Jewish traditions related to science and health, such as the relevant
                 teachings of Maimonides.

3.3 Scientific problems of Israel, including solar power generation as
                 well as other alternative .

  4. Representing the Jewish scientific community both in Israel and abroad and encouraging international scientific interaction through joint projects and fellowships to and from Israel.
  5. Influencing policy makers by providing them with independent and objective scientific advice on a wide range of topical issues. Examples of such current issues include stem cell research, genetically modified organisms and climate change in Israel.
The World Congress of Jewish Scientists will be a membership organization open to all scientists worldwide who support these goals.
